Jewellery Care

A little care goes a long way. Follow these simple practices to keep your Kuvera pieces looking as beautiful as the day they arrived.

Last Updated: 21 February 2026

General Care — All Metals

  • Put jewellery on last, after perfume, hairspray, makeup and lotion.
  • Remove before bathing, swimming, exercising or sleeping.
  • Wipe gently with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth after every wear.
  • Store each piece separately in the Kuvera pouch to prevent scratches and tangling.
  • Avoid contact with chlorine, sea water, hot springs, sulphur and household cleaners.

Gold (22KT · 18KT · 9KT)

  • 22KT & 18KT: clean with warm water and a mild soap solution, then dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
  • 9KT (harder alloy, higher scratch-resistance): the same routine works, but avoid strong household cleaners which can dull the finish over time.
  • For gemstone-set pieces, use only a soft-bristled brush — never abrasive materials.
  • Get intricate pieces professionally polished by a trusted jeweller once a year.
  • Avoid ultrasonic cleaners on pieces set with pearls, emeralds, opals or turquoise.

Sterling Silver (925)

  • Store in an airtight zip-lock along with the anti-tarnish strip supplied in your Kuvera box (where included).
  • Tarnish is a natural oxidation of silver — restore shine with a mild silver polishing cloth or a jeweller's silver dip.
  • Do not use toothpaste, baking soda or lemon on silver — they dull the finish over time.
  • Rhodium-plated silver: avoid excessive rubbing to preserve the plating.

Fine Silver (999)

  • 999 is softer than 925, so handle with extra care to avoid dents and bends — especially on chains and thin bands.
  • Wipe with a dry soft cloth after every wear; a mild silver polishing cloth is enough to restore lustre.
  • Store separately in the Kuvera pouch — 999 scratches more easily against harder metals.
  • Avoid aggressive silver dips — a gentle mild-soap wash is sufficient for regular care.

Devotional / Oxidised Silver

  • Handle with clean, dry hands — natural oils from skin add to the antique patina.
  • Do not use silver polish on oxidised pieces — it will remove the intended finish.
  • Clean gently with a dry soft brush; avoid water for filigree/pooja items.

Do's & Don'ts

  • DO: Handle over a soft surface to avoid drops.
  • DO: Keep the original invoice and authenticity certificate safely — they may be required for buy-back or resizing.
  • DON'T: Store multiple pieces in the same pouch.
  • DON'T: Attempt DIY repairs. Reach out to us — we offer complimentary polishing at our workshop for pieces bought from Kuvera.
